Tiers FAQ
Bryntum 8 changes how you get, try, and license Bryntum. Every product now comes in three tiers, including a free, open source Community tier. Read the announcement, Introducing Bryntum 8.
About the tiers
To give you more choice. Applications need different things: a small internal tool does not need the same features as a large planning system. With three tiers, you can choose the features and the price that match your application, and move to a higher tier when your needs grow.
The Community tier uses the MIT license. It is free and open source.
The Business and Enterprise tiers use a commercial license. For the license terms, see Licensing.
Each product has a features page with a tier comparison table:
Yes. Every tier uses the same product foundation and API. A higher tier adds features, so you do not need to rewrite your application when you change tiers.
Yes. All tiers use the same API, so you can move to a higher or lower tier when the needs of your application change.
To change tier, contact sales. Then change the tier at the end of each Bryntum package name in package.json and in your imports, for example from @bryntum/grid-business to @bryntum/grid-enterprise, and reinstall the packages.
Community tier
The Community tier is free and open source under the MIT license. It includes the core features of each product. Get started with Community.
No. The Community tier needs no key and no sign-up.
Install the package with the -community suffix from npm, for example @bryntum/grid-community. The framework wrappers use the same suffix, for example @bryntum/grid-react-community. For setup steps, see the documentation.
Open an issue in the Bryntum repository on GitHub.
Scheduler and Scheduler Pro
Scheduler and Scheduler Pro are now one product with three tiers: Community, Business, and Enterprise.
Both existing Scheduler and Scheduler Pro customers will get Scheduler Enterprise.
The Scheduler Pro features are in the Scheduler tiers, and most of them are in Scheduler Enterprise. This includes calendars, constraints, and effort, resource utilization, nested events, event segments, and version tracking. See the Scheduler features page for the full comparison.
Replace each Scheduler Pro package with the Scheduler Enterprise package:
@bryntum/schedulerprowith@bryntum/scheduler-enterprise@bryntum/schedulerpro-reactwith@bryntum/scheduler-react-enterprise. The Angular and Vue wrappers change in the same way.
The -trial, -thin, and -vue-3 packages no longer exist. For Vue 3, use @bryntum/scheduler-vue-enterprise.
For the full steps, see How do I upgrade from version 7 to version 8? in the Existing customers section.
Not immediately. SchedulerPro still works in version 8, but it shows a deprecation warning in the console, and version 9 removes it. Replace this code:
new SchedulerPro({ ... })
with this code:
new Scheduler({ tier : 'enterprise', ... })
Existing customers
Existing customers move to the Enterprise tier of their product.
We will email you the instructions and a license key.
Change the Bryntum packages in your application:
- In
package.json, replace each Bryntum package with its version 8 name. For example, replace@bryntum/schedulerwith@bryntum/scheduler-enterprise. - Change the package names in your imports.
- Remove the private repository configuration that you set up for version 7.
- Delete
node_modulesand your lock file, then reinstall your packages.
See the version 8 upgrade guide for more details.
Trials
Bryntum products install from public npm and run as a 14-day trial with no key. Register for a free trial key to get an additional 45 days of the trial.
Register on the trial page. We email the key to you straight away. One trial key works for every Bryntum product.
No. Business and Enterprise packages both run as a full trial, with the docs and live examples. Install the package for the tier you want to try, for example @bryntum/gantt-business or @bryntum/gantt-enterprise.
No. Bryntum packages are on public npm, so you do not need a login or an .npmrc file.
Get your license key from the Customer Zone and set it in your application’s entry file:
bryntum.licenseKey = 'your-key';
The license key replaces your trial key.
Combining products and tiers
We do not recommend that you mix products of different tiers on the same page. To combine products, install all of them from the same tier, as described in Multiple products. Also, sharing data between Gantt and Scheduler requires the Enterprise tier of both.
Products of different tiers include different versions of the same JavaScript modules, which can cause unexpected issues. For example, Grid Enterprise and Scheduler Community each include a different version of the core Store class. See Product tiers and class names.
Yes. The exception is that while Gantt and Scheduler Business work together, they cannot share data. To share data between Gantt and Scheduler, you need the Enterprise tier of both products. See the Gantt and Scheduler demo.
